Biography

An MCh (Cardiothoracic Surgery) graduate from KEM Hospital, University of Bombay, Dr K R Balakrishnan is a master of evidence-based o healthcare practices with clinical expertise in surgery. End-stage heart failure management (heart transplant & VAD implant), paediatric cardiac surgery, lung transplant, and heart and lung transplant are just some of his specialisations. Dr. Balakrishnan has been a recipient of numerous awards , national and international acclamation and various authorships in high-ranking medical journals.

With many prestigious accolades to his credit, he has also been actively involved in extensive research of the molecular biology of ventricular hypertrophy and has helped develop various institutions to develop novel surgical techniques. He also has won international recognition by performing the first pediatric heart transplant in a 2 year nine- month old child as well as a heart transplant in a 78 year old man.
